Webinar Description:

In commemoration of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, Footprint to Freedom, in partnership with members of the African Survivor Coalition, is proud to host a vital and timely webinar. This event seeks to address the pressing issue of human trafficking with a specific focus on child trafficking within the African context. The webinar will not only shed light on the current state of child trafficking but will also launch two significant initiatives:

  • The African Survivors Leadership Academy

A new partnership aimed at bolstering our collective fight against trafficking.

Context:

The World Day Against Trafficking in Persons is observed every year internationally on the 30th of July. This day was created to raise awareness about the serious crime of modern slavery and human trafficking and to promote and protect the rights of affected individuals.

The number of people experiencing modern slavery and human trafficking globally has increased to an estimated 49.6 million people on any given day. This includes approximately 27.6 million people experiencing forced labor and sexual exploitation, and 22 million individuals trapped in forced marriages. Women and girls make up an estimated 11.8 million of those experiencing forced labor and sexual exploitation around the world. Children are also significantly affected, with more than 3.3 million experiencing forced labor and sexual exploitation globally. Specific to Africa, approximately 2.4 million children are involved in forced labor and sexual exploitation. Many of these children are trafficked for labor in industries such as agriculture, mining, and domestic work.

This webinar aims to deepen the understanding of these critical issues and foster collaborative efforts to combat child trafficking in Africa. By launching the African Survivors Leadership Academy and forming new partnerships, we aspire to strengthen the network of support and resources available to survivors and advocates fighting against human trafficking.
